A day in the life of Lisa Mittal, Digital Design Executive
Sep 22nd, 2021This month, we catch up with Lisa Mittal, from our Design team…
1. Describe your role as a Digital Design Executive
As a designer it is my job to bring ideas into reality and to solve communication problems between companies and their audience. I work across a wide range of disciplines. One day I can be making an animation, the next I can be designing a magazine for print. As a Digital Design Executive at Click Consult I mostly focus on interactive design, infographics, digital illustration, ebooks, animations, web design, email design and design for social.
2. What does a typical day at Click Consult involve?
Pre-pandemic I used to start with making the design team a coffee, as good creativity always starts with good coffee! Then I check emails for any ‘design emergencies’. If all is ok then I pick up client projects or internal work and continue working on them for the rest of the day with a meeting every now and then. I also make sure I look at the latest design news too at some point in the day. I go for a walk in the local mini forest at lunch, as forests are always one of my favourite places to be and really inspire my creativity.
3.What’s the most challenging part of the role?
I would say the most challenging part of any design role is the pressure to be creative Monday – Friday, 9-5. Sometimes the creativity just doesn’t flow in those hours! Creative block is real and it happens to everyone. I normally read some design books, look at some design blogs or go for a walk when it happens, then the ideas come to me – even if it is not until bedtime. I have learned to always keep a notepad and pen next to the bed for that reason. The best creative ideas always seem to come when you are most relaxed as your subconscious mind is more active.
4. Which area of your role interests you the most?
One thing that keeps me interested in my role is that it is very broad and varied. I enjoy creating things from nothing and filling a blank page with whatever is in my mind. I also like that there is always something new you can learn, especially with ever developing technology. In summary I would say creation, exploration and growth!
5. How would you describe working at Click to a friend?
Designing creative campaigns for a wide variety of clients with some internal work thrown in. It is a nice company to work in and I get time to develop my skill set which is important to me.
6. Most embarrassing work moment?
I don’t really have any. I did check with the team and they couldn’t think of anything either. I think the thing I get most embarrassed about is when I have too much coffee and start talking rubbish/ask random questions to the rest of the design team, but I think they secretly like it.
7. Name your three dream dinner guests and why
Jay Shetty or Andy Puddicombe – To discuss mindfulness, meditation and philosophy.
Brian Cox – To learn more about the universe.
Paula Scher – To talk about all things design.
