Built by, and for, families, Britain’s oldest shoemaker Start-Rite Shoes, is one of the UKs leading children’s shoe makers in the UK. Established in 1792 Start-Rite have been committed to supporting children’s healthy foot development for more than two centuries, and have cemented a name for themselves as experts in little feet.

Recognising their expertise, Start-Rite were honoured with the Royal Warrant for children’s shoes in 1955, and have since been proud to have fitted over 1,500 pairs of shoes for young royals. Home to some of the most renowned children’s shoe styles and ranges – such as Angry Angels & Rhino – synonymous with the brand and their trusted reputation.

Having been a key name for Children’s shoes in the UK for over two centuries, Start-Rite were eager to make sure that their digital reputation was just as established as it was offline.

Start-Rite had been rapidly expanding the availability of their products with suppliers around the UK, including into independent wholesalers and multinational outlets. This not only gave us the challenge of outcompeting other brands stocked by these same online marketplaces, but also ensuring that Start-Rite’s brand identity remained strong and recognisable, and didn’t become lost amidst the vast online marketplace.

It was important for them to:

  • Maintain the reputation of their brand name
  • Have their online presence accurately reflect the quality, style, and comfort associated with their products
  • Uphold their position as leaders in children’s shoes and foot development
  • Make their brand recognisable regardless of where customers make their purchase

They partnered with Click Consult with the primary goal of increasing their market share in the following category areas:

After a thorough analysis of their website, Click designed a comprehensive organic search (SEO) strategy that consisted of a number of elements that was designed to target the areas that were underperforming from an organic search perspective, including:

  • Segmenting tracked Keyword Ranking performance into the defined category areas mentioned above, to better understand the influence of SEO efforts on each
  • Removing any duplicated content & minimising page cannibalisation
  • Providing best practice recommendations to adhere to ongoing Google core updates and spam updates
  • Optimising Meta Titles, Meta Descriptions, H1s, H2s & providing content commentary guidance, to provide Google indexing with better detail of page content
  • Supporting Start-Rite’s PR agency to maximise outreach and placement linking performance
  • Addressing any core on page technical issues to improve user experience
  • Developing a comprehensive User Focused Content hub in collaboration with Start-Rite, positioning them as an educational, authoritative and trustworthy source of information within their industry

When comparing Start-Rite’s SoV vs other competitors we used an indicative representation of non-brand search marketplace, showing the top 20 domains ranking for the specified target keywords.
